MiSTer FPGA News –

Arcade cabinets are having a moment, and the MiSTer FPGA community is absolutely loving it. Jotego, the legend behind many of these cores, just dropped several new additions that prove AI-assisted development is no longer a dirty word. You can now tackle Double Dribble, Toki, and Cabal, with the latter getting a significant architectural overhaul to better mimic the original PCB.
The variety is staggering. We’ve got a beta for the Sega Mega Play, which lets you play modified arcade versions of Mega Drive games in multi-slot setups. If you’re into fighting games, the IGS PolyGame Master (PGM) core is finally in the main update script—though, true to form, it’s still in beta. The dev is asking for your help finding bugs, so fire up those savestates if something glitches.
But here’s the real kicker: Gaelco games are back in a big way. A new core handles titles like Big Karnak and World Rally, with more coming soon. We also see standalone cores for Data East classics like Boogie Wings and Captain America & The Avengers. Plus, the DECO Cassette System core is now live, letting you play one of the first modular arcade systems ever made.
For the hardware nerds, there’s an ambitious Dreamcast hybrid core in development. It’s currently too heavy for the DE10-Nano board, but it lays the groundwork for future, more powerful FPGA implementations. Meanwhile, the main MiSTer update has quietly fixed HDMI hot-plugging issues and added Apple IIgs disk support. It’s a busy week for emulation, and honestly? We’re here for it.
