### Nintendo’s Great GitHub Purge
If you thought the era of Switch emulation was over after the high-profile demise of Yuzu and Ryujinx, think again. Nintendo is proving that even “dead” code can be resurrected—and they are more than happy to perform the digital exorcism.
In a massive, single-day blitz, Nintendo filed seven separate DMCA notices against GitHub, wiping out more than 400 repositories. This wasn’t just a few scattered files; it was a surgical strike against entire networks of code. The biggest blow landed on suyu (the successor to Yuzu), which saw 311 repositories vanish in one fell swoop.
The play-by-play:
- The Target: Emulators and their various “forks” (clones/versions) that allow users to bypass Nintendo’s encryption.
- The Argument: Nintendo claims these tools exist solely to circumvent digital protections, which violates the DMCA.
- The Aftermath: Most links now lead to 404 errors or takedown notices.
While Nintendo is winning the battle on GitHub, the war is far from over. As soon as one repo is nuked, a developer can fork it and re-upload it. It’s a high-stakes game of digital Whac-A-Mole, and Nintendo clearly has a very heavy mallet.
