The ModRetro Chromatic Is About to Get a Transparent Makeover

If you’ve been staring at eBay listings for the ModRetro Chromatic and wondering why a handheld costs as much as a used sedan, we have some very good news. You can finally stop being a victim of scalper pricing.
ModRetro just dropped a teaser confirming that a new lineup of transparent shells is officially on the way. This is a massive win for nostalgia junkies; after a recent OpenAI event, rare transparent models surfaced and immediately hit the secondary market for eye-watering prices (we’re talking upwards of $5,000).
The new drop aims to fix that. While we’re still waiting on the official price tag, the teaser suggests four new colors are coming to the party. Expect the internal tech to stay the same, but with that classic, see-through aesthetic that makes us all feel like it’s 1998 again.
Mark your calendars:
- The Big Reveal: October 8 at 9:30 am PT.
- The Vibe: Pure Game Boy Color energy.
Keep your eyes peeled—we’ll let you know the second pre-orders go live so you can snag one without breaking the bank.
