[UPDATE: Potential Price] The Anbernic RG DDS Might Be the Retroid Pocket Duo Rival We’ve Been Waiting For
If you thought the dual-screen handheld craze was over, think again. Anbernic is officially entering the ring with the RG DDS, and it looks like they’re aiming straight for the crown of the ultimate 3DS successor.
The hardware specs are looking seriously beefy. We’re talking a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor and a massive 6,000mAh battery. For those who care about the visuals, the screens are beautifully upscaled—the main 4.7-inch display and the 4-inch secondary screen both boast 300 ppi, meaning your favorite classics will look crisp rather than pixelated.
The big question, of course, is the damage to your wallet. While nothing is set in stone, a representative from Anbernic teased a potential price point of around $300 for an 8GB model.
Here’s the quick breakdown of why this matters:
- Power: The G2 Gen 2 chip is seeing massive benchmark leaps over its competitors.
- Design: It leans into that beloved “New 3DS” aesthetic with a much-improved, extendable mesh-tip stylus.
- The Rivalry: It’s positioning itself as a high-performance alternative to the Retroid Pocket Duo.
We’re still waiting on a firm release date, but if these specs hold up, your nostalgia is about to get a major upgrade.
