Dust off your controllers and grab your favorite chili dog—the Sonic Hacking Contest is officially back.
For the uninitiated, SHC is the annual playground where Sonic fans showcase their most ambitious ROM hacks and game mods. This year, the organizers have shaken things up by ditching the old “judged vs. unjudged” tags in favor of three streamlined categories: ROM Hacks (playable on real hardware), Modern 2D, and 3D.
The talent on display is as wild as a Chaos Emerald. Some standouts include:
- Sonic 1 But Your Past Haunts You: A creepy twist on the classic where a dark doppelgänger stalks your every move.
Sonic Mania Breakout: A surprisingly addictive Breakout clone built in the Sonic Mania* engine.
Generations Project Demo: A massive technical feat that brings Sonic Generations levels into the Sonic Unleashed* engine.
The best part? You get to be the judge. The awards are entirely community-voted, so head over to SHC.zone, dive into the entries, and make sure to cast your vote before the results are in.
