Arcooda’s 4K Arcade Monitor Is the Best 4:3 LCD Yet — But Is It Worth It?

Bob from RetroRGB just livestreamed a deep dive into Arcooda’s new 26″ 4K (2880×2160) arcade monitor—and the verdict? It’s stupidly good for a 4:3 LCD. Not only does it outperform the 1080p version in sharpness and clarity, but it rivals high-end consumer 4K IPS panels. If you’re upgrading an arcade cabinet or building a retro setup and want authentic 4:3 proportions without CRT bulk, this is arguably the best option on the market.

But here’s the twist: You should feed it 1080p—not native 4K. Why? Because Arcooda’s panel does incredibly sharp integer scaling (think: 1080p → 4K), and the extra pixel density makes even HD sources pop. MiSTer users: set `video_mode=8`, stretch aspect ratio to “Full Screen” per-core, and enjoy crisp output plus 5x overscan via Vertical Crop. RetroTINK users: go generic 16:9 mode; OSSC users… well, good luck stretching natively.

Bottom line: If you already have arcade hardware and want a plug-and-play swap (especially with RGB input), the 4K Arcooda is worth the upgrade. But if budget’s tight or you’re just dipping into retro, the 1080p model remains a fantastic—and more affordable—option. And if you really want perfection? Go OLED—but be prepared to pay premium prices.
