Legend of Doom hits 3DS With New Homebrew Port

Ever wondered what would happen if Link traded his shield for a shotgun and swapped top-down exploration for a first-person perspective? Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore.

A new homebrew port called Legend of Doom has officially landed on the Nintendo 3DS. Developed by EstebanPdN, this project takes the classic Legend of Zelda and reimagines it through the ray-casting lens of Doom. It’s a total conversion that brings the NES masterpiece into a fast-paced, FPS world, all playable on your handheld.

The port is surprisingly polished for a homebrew project. It includes some clever quality-of-life upgrades specifically for the 3DS, such as:

  • Dual-screen utility: The bottom screen acts as a dedicated map with a tap-to-toggle inventory.
  • Twin-stick controls: If you have a New 3DS, you can use the right stick for full FPS movement.
  • Autosaving: Because dying to a pixelated Octorok is part of the charm.

The only real bummer? It doesn’t support the 3DS’s signature stereoscopic 3D effect just yet. But even without the depth, playing a first-person Zelda on original Nintendo hardware is a surreal, delightful trip for any retro fan.
