Sega CDX Kit to Load Sega CD Games from ROM Carts

If you own a Sega CDX, you know it’s arguably the most beautiful piece of hardware Sega ever produced. It’s sleek, compact, and combines the Genesis and Sega CD into one gorgeous unit. There’s just one tiny, annoying problem: if you try to run Sega CD games via a ROM cartridge (like the Mega Everdrive Pro), the internal hardware gets into a digital fistfight with the cartridge, and nobody wins.
Enter the “CDX Engine Idler.”
Created by Zaxour, this $50 kit is a bit of a technical wizardry move. It allows you to “disable” the built-in Sega CD hardware by simply holding the reset button during startup. Once the internal chips are sidelined, your ROM cart can take over the driver’s seat without any bus conflicts.
A quick word of caution: this isn’t a “plug and play” situation. This is an expert-level hardware mod that requires some serious soldering skills. Given that CDX consoles are already pricey collector’s items, you’ll want to be sure of your craft before diving in.
That said, it’s a massive win for original hardware purists who want the ultimate, streamlined Sega setup.
