The Anbernic RG DDS Might Be the Retroid Pocket Duo Rival We’ve Been Waiting For
If you were hoping the dual-screen handheld craze was a passing fad, Anbernic just crashed the party. The newly announced RG DDS is officially stepping into the ring, and it looks like it’s coming for the Retroid Pocket Duo’s crown.
Design-wise, Anbernic is leaning hard into nostalgia. The device looks strikingly similar to a New 3DS, complete with a redesigned stylus that actually looks usable (it’s extendable and features a mesh tip—thank you, Anbernic!).
But the real magic is under the hood. This isn’t just a pretty face; it’s packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor and what appears to be 8GB of RAM. This means we aren’t just playing old games; we’re playing them beautifully upscaled.
The quick specs:
- Main Screen: 4.7-inch (720p)
- Bottom Screen: 4-inch (720p)
- Battery: A beefy 6,000mAh
- The Vibe: High-res, high-performance DS emulation
We’re still in the dark regarding the price and an official release date, but if these specs hold up, this might just be the ultimate 3DS replacement we’ve been waiting for.
