Ever wondered what Castlevania would look like if Konami had actually released it on the Super Nintendo instead of the NES? Well, thanks to some serious wizardry, we don’t have to wonder anymore.
Developer Rumbleminze has just dropped a massive update to his NES-to-SNES conversion of the classic. This isn’t just a technical patch; it’s a visual glow-up. Artist Fiuke Bnuy has overhauled the graphics, reworking tiles and levels to take full advantage of the SNES’s expanded color palette.
The best part? You don’t have to choose between nostalgia and eye candy. The title screen lets you toggle between the original 8-bit look and these lush new 16-bit visuals. Even if you stick to the classic sprites, you still get the “Pro” experience:
- Smoother gameplay with less slowdown
- No more annoying sprite flicker
- High-quality MSU-1 audio soundtracks
It’s a beautiful way to play a masterpiece exactly how it was meant to run, just without the hardware shackles of 1986. Now, if only someone would do the same for Metroid…
