AMD FSR 4.1 is Rolling Out Now, Here’s How to Enable It on Your ROG Xbox Ally X20 and Other Handhelds

If you’ve been feeling like your handheld gaming experience could use a little more “oomph” and a little less “stutter,” AMD has some good news. The FSR 4.1 upscaling update is officially rolling out, and it’s a massive win for owners of x86 devices like the ROG Ally X and the new Ally X20.

For the uninitiated, FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) is basically magic for your frame rates. It allows your device to render games at a lower resolution and then upscale them to look sharp, giving you a smoother experience without melting your battery. With over 400 compatible games ready to go, your handheld is about to feel a lot more powerful.

Since this is currently in “preview” mode, you’ll have to do a little digital scavenger hunt to get it running:

  • Enable Preview Updates: Head into the Armoury Crate SE app and toggle on “Preview Updates” in the Update Center.
  • Update Drivers: Download the latest GPU drivers (Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 or newer).
  • Customize your Command Center: Use the “add tile” button in your layout to pin the AMD FSR Upscaling shortcut for easy access.

Just a heads-up: because it’s a beta, expect a few bugs. If a game won’t cooperate, close it entirely, enable the settings, and then relaunch. Happy gaming!
