Remember the days of sitting on a basement floor, tangled in a literal web of gray cables, just to play Pokémon with a friend? Well, the nostalgia just got a serious tech upgrade.
The GB-Link USB v2 is a new homebrew device designed to turn your vintage Game Boy, Color, or Advance into an internet-connected powerhouse. Its standout feature? Netplay. It essentially mimics a physical link cable over the web, allowing you to battle players halfway across the globe as if they were sitting right next to you.
But it’s not just about multiplayer. This little gadget is a Swiss Army knife for handheld enthusiasts. According to recent reviews, you can use it to:
- Load ROMs directly without needing a flash cart.
- Dump your physical cartridges and save files to your computer.
- “Print” your old Game Boy Camera photos into digital files.
- Emulate the elusive GBA eReader.
It’s currently sitting at a $50 price point, though you’ll need some patience—shipping isn’t slated until early 2027. If you’re looking to breathe new life into your old hardware, this is definitely one to keep on your radar.
