Laser Bear’s BlueRetro GameCube Update

If you’ve been using the LaserBear internal Bluetooth kit for your GameCube, you’re about to have a much better time. Greg from LaserBear Industries just dropped a massive free update, and it’s more than just a quick patch—it’s a total workflow upgrade.
The star of the show is the new Companion app. If you’ve ever tried updating firmware over Bluetooth, you know it can feel like waiting for dial-up to load a YouTube video. This new app lets you push updates via homebrew (like SD2SP2) in about a minute. That’s roughly ten times faster than the old way.
Here’s what else is in the box:
- New Hardware Support: You can finally pair NSO GameCube controllers.
- Per-Game Mapping: If you use Swiss, you can now set custom button layouts for specific games.
- Better Management: Remap controllers, back up profiles, and use a live input viewer to troubleshoot lag or dead zones.
It’s also heartening to see the project moving forward after the original creator stepped away. While this is specifically verified for LaserBear hardware, it’s a huge win for the retro community.
