If you’ve been eyeing the ModRetro M64, hoping it would be more than just a shiny new paperweight, you’ll be happy to know the team is actually doing the work. Instead of going radio silent after launch, they’ve already rolled out two significant software updates for both the FPGA-based console and their wireless N64-style controller.

The highlights? We’re talking about serious quality-of-life upgrades. The controller update (0.12.0) finally brings fully enabled wireless rumble via a “Virtual Rumble Pak,” along with much-needed stability fixes for Joybus and wired connections.

On the console side (version 1.24.3), things are looking a bit smoother too:

  • Better Audio: Enhanced 48kHz output compatibility.
  • Visual Tweaks: The system now auto-detects your display’s preferred resolution and lets you toggle between 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
  • UX Fixes: They’ve ironed out annoying bugs involving network menus and controller debonding.

It’s refreshing to see a company treat “launch day” as the beginning of the journey rather than the finish line. With open-source exports and 8BitDo rumble support on the horizon, the M64 is proving it’s built to evolve.
