### Emulation Drama: Azahar Declares War on Anbernic

If you thought Monday was going to be quiet, think again. The retro handheld community is currently embroiled in some serious “developer vs. manufacturer” beef, and it’s getting messy.

The drama centers on Azahar, the go-to 3DS emulator, and Anbernic, the popular handheld maker. The friction started when Anbernic began promoting its upcoming RG DDS device using footage of “AzaharPlus.”

Now, here’s the catch: AzaharPlus isn’t actually an official version. It’s a fork that includes a built-in ROM decrypter—a feature the original Azahar developers intentionally omitted to stay on the right side of legal boundaries and discourage piracy. By using the Azahar name and logo to market a version that bypasses their core philosophy, Anbernic has effectively stepped on some very sensitive toes.

The fallout?

  • Azahar has officially announced it will no longer support Anbernic devices.

While you can still install* Azahar on these handhelds, don’t expect any help from the devs if things break.

  • The team is explicitly suggesting users “look for alternatives.”

It’s a classic case of corporate marketing clashing with developer ethics. Whether this affects sales remains to be seen, but the tension is definitely heating up.
